The bandana is one of our favorite overlooked piece of gear for enduro riding. After wearing a bandana for the past couple of years it has become as important as gloves and googles. It works great to stop those tree branch gouges to the neck.
In the winter time you wear it cowboy style with the large area facing the front to block the cold air and if it gets really cold you can tuck it up up under the chin strap. If it warms up later in the day or in the summer just flip it around backwards so that it keeps the sun off your neck. When you come to a stream you can dunk it in, squeeze out the cold water over your head, wipe off the dust and put it back on wet.
